Public Exhibition

Wyse Homes is a local developer who takes pride in working with local communities to deliver high quality homes in South Devon. We believe that mass housebuilders deliver generic serile developments that do nothing to reflect or enhance the communities they build in. Wyse Homes do things differrently.

The built environment of Highweek has evolved aver time with pockets of development responding to the topography and presenting different architectural styles. The history and expansion of the village can be seen in the different building styles that have emerged during different periods and almost every archiectural era is represented.

We believe the development proposals we bring forward need to reflect this. A contextual analysis of the village identifies that simple rendered facades are prevelent below a mix of clate & clay tile roofs. External timber and hung tile cladding are evident and brick, certainly in the core of the village, is rare. Stone boundary, and retaining, walls re-occure throughout the village refecting the nature of the terrain. Architecturally it's evident that new homes have historically been built in small clusters as the village expanded organically. Pre-indistrial buildings, likely to have been barns or farm cottages, are vissible and there are examples of Victorian and Edwardian homes. Rural cottages, possibly constructed fro agricultural workers or as Parish houses appear to be from teh inter war period and teh post war development spreads out of the village centre with some bold contemporary architecture in pockets.

Images of house concepts will be added to this page between now and the 17th, however, as a starting point, the image below shows how the site layout currently looks. the application site is across two areas of land, either side of Western House, and is proposed with 35 new homes. This porposal includes 2No, 1 bed flats; 7No, 2 bed houses; 19No, 3 bed houses and 7No 4+ bed houses. This will include social homes for rent and shared ownership plus two self build plots.

As can be seen the tree line along Howton Road is retained with a 10m buffer to houses to provide wildlife habitat. Additionally, a wildlife corridor is maintained around the perimiter of the development alongside more than an acre of public open space.

the application will include detailed ecological repofrting and surveys, draingae design and a detailed landscape impact assessment. At least two parking spaces are provided for each home and the road will be adopted and maintained by Devon County Council.

We hope to see you and hear your views at the public exhibition on the 17th.
