Name a Street Competition

In collaboration with local schools we're engaing with children in the community to be involved with the development consultation at Howton Road.

Our 'Architects Apprentice' competition is drawing out the creative side, designing a dream home, but this is for those of you who are more literary than artistic.

What's in a name? well, actually, quite a lot of history and tradition. Places are named after people, famous or not so famous, after local tradition, landmarks, or landscape features. A 'week' was an old English name for a farmstead. Put one of these high on a hill and we get Highweek! If a powerful local Abbot creates a new town...

A 'road' is traditionally a link between two settlements, a street is the main route through a town or vilage. We can throw in Place's, Mews, Cloes, Crescent, Terrace... You've heard them all so now it's over to you to think of a name for us to use in the development.

You can lean on tradition with any of the suggestions above or start your own naming tradition naming it after yourself or someone you know. 'Serenity Place' has a nice ring and I'm a fan of naming one after me and calling it 'Tonopia' but it's not me that choosing.

So, over to you. Think of a street name for a street, or even the whole development, and either email it directly to me tony@wyse-group.com or give it in to your school and they'll send it to me. Be sure to include your name and a parent of gardians contcat details in case you win.

The First prize (or possibly prizes depending how many streets we create) will be to have your name as a footnote on the street sign, 'this road was named by ....' with two runners up prizes of branded 'high viz' jackets and hard hats.

The competition ends on Friday 23rd May with winners anounced on Monday 26th.

Good luck and get naming...
